I’ve been boosted!

I got my COVID-19 booster shot, courtesy of Clinical Research Associates. Fortunately, they warned me that my post-vaccine reaction would be similar to my reaction to the original vaccine. Unfortunately, they were right. Man, the fever, aches, and chills were bad but the headache was the worst! Good news is, I was fine within 24 hours and I’m protected for a while. Bad news, if this is how I’m going to react every time they give me a booster (and we don’t know how often that might be) I’m going to have to plan for feeling like crap on toast for a solid day.

I’ve picked up the The Weekender again. I’m way overdue for the intended recipient but now that fall is here, I need to finish up the last sleeve and send it off. Am I the only one who cannot get excited about sleeves? It’s one of the reasons I knit short sleeves for myself but this one needs to be long sleeved – 16″ of stockinette is just brutal. My shawl is almost 2/3 done. I am determined to finish these 2 so I can cast on something new.

My Advent set from Spun Right Round has already shipped! I don’t know what I was thinking because I ordered (3) advent kits this year. Spun Right Round, Hookers Corner and Hue Loco will all be delivering to my door in the next 6 weeks. I plan to start opening on November 1st and continue until January 19th. These will not become stash. I plan to knit with them right away. Not sure what but with 75 minis I’ll have more than enough to pretty much make whatever I want. The Hue Loco kit is ‘Fade’. I think that will become a sweater. Hooker’s Corner will be a traditional advent project and Spun Right Round is still a mystery. I have my buddy, LJ, to thank for not only turning me on to advent kits but encouraging me to get as many as I can. She’s the mini-queen and most of her designs use minis and I’m expecting an awesome new pattern in time for this year’s advent season. Check her out!

Tiny kitten sitting on some knitting
Miso loved helping me count stitches

I recently spent the weekend pet-sitting for my daughter. Her new kitten, Miso, is not quite acclimated and she wasn’t comfortable leaving her with Cruz, her 13 yo alpha kittie. As always, I’m happy to spend a weekend away from home working, knitting, Netflix binging. This trip I met up with my Knitting Getaway friend and roommate, Janice, for lunch and a bit of yarn shopping. Really, lunch is just an excuse for us to yarn shop. With a bout of FOMO over Rhinebeck and SAFF, we headed to Grinny Possum Fiber Arts in New Albany, IN. Closed. Empty. No longer exists. Don’t trust Google for that information since, according to them, they open at 10am. The storefront looked like it had closed a long time ago.

This is destined to be a hat & mitten set, aptly named Unicorn Barf

Next stop, Yarn Works in Jeffersonville, IN. I loved this little shop and the owner, Lynn, was just so lovely and welcoming. Don’t be fooled by the front room – there are 3 rooms full of yarn! We spent a good amount of time (and money) there. This is definitely one I will return to during my next trip. Finally, we took the trek to LaGrange, KY to visit Fiber & Friends. I’ve shopped with them at festivals but had not been to their shop. It was busy, they had many lovely items, a sweet shop dog (Tess, the cockerdoodle) and very friendly and helpful customers and shopkeepers. I bought some nice Summer Sesame from Berroco to make a sweater that they had on display as a shop sample – I’m pretty easy to convince if I can see and feel the drape of a sweater. We ended our afternoon at Red Pepper, across the street from Friends & Fiber. An unassuming deli, they had yummy sandwiches and, when we arrived, was not so busy that we easily found a table. Within about 20 minutes there was a line out of the door. Again, I’d definitely make a point to visit next time I’m in town.

It was nice to be away for a few days but coming home is nice too. I got a lot of knitting done. Watched some loved but forgotten movies, and kept a kitten from climbing the curtains and terrorizing the OG cat.
